Porcelain CrownsPorcelain Crowns are used to permanently cover a tooth that is either decayed, damaged, or cracked. Crown can be made of different materials, however, porcelain is the most common material used because it is natural in appearance. To begin treatment, Dr. Curtiss will numb the tooth to remove the decay around it and take an impression of your teeth to insure a proper fit. A temporary crown is usually placed until your custom-fitted crown is created from your impression. Once the crown is ready, you'll visit Dr. Curtiss where your crown is cemented or adhesively bonded. New technological advances has made it possible for crowns to be placed in one visit. You can discuss with your dentist which options are available.
Tooth-Colored FillingsIf you have received fillings in the past, they may have been crafted from mercury or other metal alloy. Today, many people are choosing to have these old fillings improved by replacing them with composite-resin fillings. Composite resin is made of plastic materials that are used for both fillings and tooth repair. The main benefit of composite resin fillings is the aesthetics of having tooth-colored fillings, particularly in the front of the mouth where natural appearance is more important.
Smile WhiteningIf you are looking for a brighter, whiter smile, there are multiple options available to you. Your dentist will discuss with you the different options that are available and which is best for your smile whitening needs. The most common methods of smile whitening are at-home bleaching and whitening toothpastes. At-home bleaching is for those who prefer the comforts of home. Your dentist will provide you with the whitening gel and fitted mouthguards to be used day and/or night while at home. Whitening toothpastes contain polishing or chemical agents, rather than bleaches, to removing surface stains and may be recommended for minor teeth whitening treatment. Regardless of which treatment you decide to use, be sure to look for the ADA seal of approval.
VeneersVeneers are a highly popular solution among dental patients because of their life-like tooth appearance. Veneers are used for patients who suffer from chipped, broken, stained, or badly shaped teeth. These thin, custom-made shells are designed to cover the front side of your teeth, so your dentist will create a mode of your teeth to ensure a proper fit. Before placing your new veneer, a small amount of your tooth will be removed by your dentist in order to make room for the veneer. This is one of many wonderful solution for improving your smile.
InvisalignConsider Invisalign® to get the beautiful straight teeth you've always wanted - without braces. A complimentary consultation with Dr. Curtiss can determine if Invisalign is right for you. Invisalign uses a series of invisible, removable, and comfortable aligners that no one can tell you're wearing. You wear each set of aligners for about 2 weeks, removing them only to eat, drink, brush, and floss. As you replace each aligner with the next in the series, your teeth will move until they have straightened to the final position Dr. Curtiss has prescribed. You'll visit Dr. Curtiss about once every 6 weeks to ensure that your treatment is progressing as planned. Total treatment time averages 9-15 months and the average number of aligners worn during treatment is between 18 and 30, but both will vary from case to case. You can learn more about Invisalign on their web site at www.invisalign.com.
Cosmetic BondingCosmetic Bonding is a painless and effective procedure where a thin, durable resin material is placed directly onto your tooth, shaping it until it perfectly matches your surrounding natural teeth. This offers a quick solution to flaws in the shape and color of a tooth and produces immediate results. While not as long-lasting as porcelain veneers, bonding is an excellent cosmetic solution for younger patients.
ImplantsFor those who wish to gain freedom from traditional dentures, or those who need to replace a missing tooth or teeth, implants can be the answer. These artificial roots made of titanium are used to anchor natural looking artificial teeth into the mouth, allowing for the freedom and control of a natural smile. The titanium root is place within the jawbone and will need time to heal and successfully attach to the jawbone before the second phase of the procedure can begin. Once your jawbone has healed, your dentist will fit your implant with your new tooth. Treatment time will vary, but usually takes between three to eight months. TMJ & TMD Your temporomandibular joints, or jaw joints, connect your lower jawbone to your skull. These joints get a lot of use throughout the day when you are speaking, chewing, yawning, and so on. If you are experiencing any symptoms, such as pain in the jaw area, clicking or popping when your jaw moves, frequent headaches or neck aches, or lock jaw, you may be suffering from Temporomandibular disorder or TMD. When untreated, sufferers of TMD and TMJ may experience neck pain, upper back pain, a sore jaw, and headaches, among other symptoms. Your dentist can help you determine if you are suffering from TMD, and will help guide you through the necessary treatment. Sedation Dentistry Sedation dentistry provides safe, comfortable dental treatment for patients with special needs. Sometimes called relaxation dentistry, sedation dentistry is a method of managing pain and anxiety during professional dental care through the use of medication. Sedation dentistry is beneficial for those patients who have high fear of dental care, complex dental problems, fear of needles and shots, trouble getting numb, or sensitive teeth. There are two common choices for sedation:
